Today, February 9, 2012, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission voted to approve the Vogtle 3&4 Combined Construction and Operating License, known as the COL (see our press release below). While Plant Vogtle is under construction and a lot is happening, this allows us to begin safety related construction. We expect unit 3 to begin operations in 2016 and unit 4 in 2017.
Plant Vogtle will provide electricity for more than 500,000 homes and businesses in Georgia. The project represents a $14 billion investment. On the job front, Plant Vogtle will create approximately 5000 new jobs, including 3500 jobs during peak construction, and 800 permanent jobs.
